Lake Hillier is located off the southwest coast of Australia, and is entirely pink due to the micro-algae Dunaliella salina.

The algae thrive in the saline lake water, and produce antioxidants, beta-carotene, and glycerol; which cause the bubblegum-pink coloring and protect the algae from intense light.

The lake is safe to swim in and is similar in salt content to the Dead Sea. However, Lake Hillier is off limits to the public, in order to protect its ecosystem. Observers either take flights over the lake, or cruise past in boats.
